Since committing to Nanowrimo, I’ve had good days and bad days. And some days when i just forgot to update my Nanowrimo numbers. But I have to say that this is the first time I’ve stuck to writing “something” every single day for 10 days in a row….ever. And I’m having a good time with it. At first, I thought I couldn’t possibly write without editing. I can’t leave typos or misspelled words, but I’m not going back and fixing, editing, putzing with dialogue or sentence structure. I’m just writing, getting it all out and down on paper. And the truth is, although it’s not great, it’s pretty good. Good…

I’m very excited to say that my book, You Belong To Me, has been featured on the site www.her-stories.com, a website for moms.  Wow, that is so cool! The owner of that site is also a member of the RWA online Chapter that I belong to, From The Heart Romance Writers. I’ve been simply amazed and warmed by the support from my writing community at FTHRW …. and other groups and individual friends as well. I guess other writers are the ones who know how scary it can be to put your words out there, to hope someone downloads your book and finds it an enjoyable read. Please visit www.her-stories.com…

Today begins the month-long writing marathon known as NanoWrimo, or National Novel Writing Month. The objective is to write 50,000 words this month, without editing. Just WRITE! Yes,I’m participating. A few years ago I started a novel and then put it aside while writing another. Adirondack Moon is what I currently have named it, although that may change once the story is finished. The story keeps calling me to finish it, and that is what I intend to work on this month. So last night I spent a couple of hours reading the first 8 chapters of the book. That is what I had completed before putting it aside. I…

Promotion: everyone has to do it, especially if you are self-published. Although today, even the large publishers expect authors to promote themselves. After putting together a plan for promoting my book, the hardest part is doing it – pressing the button to send that email or posting a tidbit on Facebook or Twitter. It is easy to promote others, to send a link or tweet about a book written by someone I know and whose book I really like. But putting yourself out there is another thing altogether. I suspect it harkens back to the day when our mothers told us to sit still, don’t be pushy, wait your turn,…

Fear of Formatting

It came as quite a surprise to me to find out my Kindle formatting had some errors. I had checked and rechecked, looked at the Kindle Preview, and it all looked pretty good. But a good friend and early reader told me that there were some words missing, and they seemed to be replaced by comma’s. So, I backed my way from the Kindle to the Previewer to my formatting software and found that all the errors began in Jutoh, the tool I use to convert my Word docs to .mobi format.  It seems that all the place names (Boston, New York, etc.) were  replaced with a single space. The…
