Digging Through the Past
Sometimes I need to put aside one story I’m writing and work on another. I’ve read that other authors do this, too. You get stuck somewhere in your story, a plot point isn’t working, your character just stopped speaking to you. Whatever it is, you need to put it aside and work on something else. That just happened to me this past week.
So, I was trying to decide which story to pull out and work on when, what to my wondering eyes should appear, but my 90% completed book with an archeological theme. That was one of my majors in college, archeology, along with psychology. And so I was was able to use some of my knowledge, do some significant research and develop a story that I thoroughly enjoyed. And of course, the hero is smart and seriously hot.
But at the time I “finished” it, I was not ready to publish, not ready to share my writing with the world, and I had a huge consulting project that started just about that time. So it got put in a drawer (or a hard drive folder in this case.) Today, out it came. Perhaps after I spend some editing time with it and polish it up nice and shiny, I’ll share an excerpt or two. My plan right now is to complete this book by the end of April (if doing my taxes doesn’t suck the life out of me) and publish it.
