It’s been in the low 90’s here in upstate New York for the past few days after hovering in the 70’s for weeks. I guess the Sultry Summer Reads are bringing on the heat!

But more usually, the temperatures begin to lower, the nights marked by a chill, and even though I’m many, many years out of school, the season always makes me think of new beginnings. This is the time of year when I get organized. After spending too many lazy days and evenings outside during the summer, the inside beckons me to sort, and throw out, and get new notebooks. Yes, notebooks.

Although I do most of my writing on the computer, even those first very rough drafts, my notebooks hold ideas, things I want to do, quotes, lists and lists and lists. I’m sure my love of notebooks began in school when we went to the nearest “mart” store and bought our school supplies. Now, it is more likely to be a Levenger order, or a turquoise suede covered journal that fills my need for a notebook.

I’m even looking forward to pulling out those fall sweaters and putting the summer lightweight clothes away for another year (or a mid-winter trip to the tropics.)

Do you “start fresh” in September or do you wait until January 1? Does autumn have a particular meaning or motivation for you? I’d love to hear about it.

Comment: I don’t put away my summer things until about October. So I guess that’s my fresh start. And Autumn itself is meaningful to me. It’s the return of cooler weather and the change of heart that I think most people feel as we get into the months with major holidays that bring cheer to one’s heart.

comment: I’m a notebook girl myself. I have a notebook for all the books that I’ve read, I have one for books that I want to read, divided by the months that they are released and another for new authors that I would like to try out. Wow I just read that and…hello, my name is Sue and I’m an obsessive book addict! lol

Sue – I can totally relate to the words “Obsessive book addict” as I look at my list of to-be-read books on my Kindle. And, of course, then I have to go buy that latest one by a favorite author. Thank you for stopping by and good luck in the drawings!
